What is NBCPA all about?
1 - to play an active role in the decisionmaking that affects the events we play in.
2 - to be a voice for players and provide constructive feedback to NBCA.
3 - to identify issues (from the players perspective) that require the NBCA’s attention.
4 - to enhance the lines of communication between players and the NBCA.

NBCA AGM Briefing for players (Sent: June 16, 2009):
Hello players,
I attended the NBCA AGM and have prepared some highlights I believe you will find
helpful. As a players rep, I see my role is to enhance the two way communication link
between players and the organizers. The NBC Players Association can play an important
role in helping to enhance curling in NB and as players, our role is to bring forward
not only our concerns about what needs to be improved, but to identify what is working
and needs to keep going. If we do have concerns, we need to back them up with facts
and examples and present concrete solutions and recommendations. The NBCPA can be the
forum for this.
Here are some of the highlights from the AGM:
-Site selection for 2009-2010 has been complete, and part of 2010-2011.
-The format used this past year (2 opens and the final 8) for men will be used for the
next two seasons.
-The dates have been chosen with the Olympic dates in mind and should not conflict.
-The two opens are going to be in Fredericton/Moncton/Saint John for the next two years.
-The Intermediate spiel will not be hosted. Given the success of the Dominion
Championships, the rationale for an Intermediate spiel does not appear evident.
-The NBCA website will be updated soon, a new webmaster is being secured.
-Nicole McCann is the new NBCA president, Debbie McCann is acting executive director
(until Tradina returns from parental leave).
- This year was challenging financially for NBCA - Bonspiel entry fees were way down
(20%), while Bonspiel expenses are way up (20%).
- The NBCA will be undertaking a strategic planning process this summer and this is
something that the NBCPA should prepare a brief on – as players, where do we see
curling going in NB?
- Nicole McCann has committed to getting me the list of email contacts we can add to our
distribution list.
Next steps for NBCPA:
The player's committee will be having a conference call within the next few weeks to
discuss these details.
There are many different players in New Brunswick (men, women, seniors, juniors, and
wheelchair curling, stick curling, and university curling), and is our goal to ensure
all player interests are represented to the NBCA.
We will send along more info as it becomes available.
Have a great summer,
Trevor Hanson
NBCPA committee member
